How to Measure for Shutters
Although not necessary, measuring for shutters is most easily accomplished with an assistant. Measure with a steel tape measure to ensure accuracy. Reference the illustration of Tape Measure Fractions if necessary.
Measure the width and height at three points.
Note: Hinges are to be installed on the inside of the opening (there is no framing or trim) Installed shutters will have a small overlap on sides and the top.
When ordering please indicate if there is an apron ( ledge ) at the bottom.
In the absence of the window bottom ledge there is a slight over lap at bottom as well. You will also need to measure your window’s backspace (Figure 1). The backspace of a window ensures proper louver clearance and operation for your shutters. When measuring backspace, be sure to take into consideration anything which may inhibit the louvers from opening all the way. This may be window trim, locks, opening cranks, or even the window itself. To allow proper installation a minimum of 2″ back space is required.
